An assault with a deadly weapon suspect was taken into custody Thursday evening on Venice Beach after trying to hide in jetty rocks after fleeing from Santa Monica, authorities said.

A pursuit that started in Santa Monica involving two suspects ended up in Venice when one suspect fled on foot and ran out to the jetty, said Sgt. Rudy Flores of the Santa Monica Police Department. The man was in the breakwater rocks near the Los Angeles Police Department substation and the Venice Beach skatepark for about an hour before he surrendered about 5 p.m. without confrontation, Flores said.

The second suspect also was arrested, Flores said.

LAPD officers, Los Angeles County Lifeguards and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s patrol boat joined Santa Monica police on the beach and a LAPD helicopter also hovered overhead.
