Mercedes Grille is hosting a drink special this afternoon followed by a silent auction featuring items ranging from Lakers tickets to gift certificates from local restaurants to raise funds for the family of slain 24-year-old co-worker Guillermo Carmona-Perez.

Proceeds from beer and $5 glasses of wine after 4 p.m. will be donated to his family, said restaurant manager Mark Niklas.

Carmona-Perez, who worked as a cook at Mercedes Grille and also at nearby Baja Cantina, was fatally stabbed Nov. 18 about 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Pacific Avenue. The Venice resident was rushed to a nearby hospital, but later died from his injuries.

He was the father to a 15-month-old son and left behind a partner, Miriam.

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a motion on Friday calling for a $50,000 related to the Nov. 18 stabbing death of a 24-year-old Venice man Guillermo Carmona-Perez.

Many local business owners contributed items for the silent auction that will start about 6 p.m. to help his family pay for funeral costs and living expenses.

The auction items included two tickets each for upcoming Los Angels Lakers, Clippers and Kings games at the Staples Center at press box level, Niklas said. Two Los Angeles Dodgers tickets at the club level also will be up for silent auction.

A Red Dog skateboard designed by Z-Boys skater Jim Muir also will be available, along with an Arbor board, a Penny board and a Dusters skateboard.

An NFL football signed by Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and the rest of the Sunday sports team on Fox also will be up for bid.

“We also have $100 gift certificate from about every restaurant in town, including Danny’s, James’ Beach, Nikki’s, Gjelina and Seed,” Niklas said.

Four front-row tickets to a taping of Chelsea Lately and three autographed books by host Chelsea Handler also will be up for auction.

The slaying hit home for many of the local business owners, particularly at neighboring restaurants, and they generously contributed items for the auction.

“They know what it’s like to lose a family member and we all work together so tight in such a confined place you become family. And they realize that,” he said.

A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder.

Mercedes Grille is located at 14 Washington Blvd.
