Sidewalk Cafe Hosts Fundraiser on Friday for Venice Resident Nicole Amaral...

A fundraiser will be held Friday at The Sidewalk Cafe on behalf of Venice resident Nicole Amaral who has been diagnosed with a rare tumor. An online fundraiser also has been started at GoFundMe by  Venice resident Masao Miyashiro to help Amaral who learned after a series of medical tests that she has a rare tumor behind her eye that has been growing into her cheek. The Sidewalk Cafe fundraiser will run Friday  (March 13) from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.  with raffles for bikes, skateboards and a two-night stay in the Dogtown Suite at Hotel Erwin. LAPD Pacific Division to host open house and pancake breakfast Sept. 20...

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division will host an open house and pancake breakfast on September 20 at the station. Proceeds from the $5 per person pancake breakfast will benefit the non-profit Pacific Area Boosters Association that supports the division’s youth programs and the police station. The free open house will include guided tours of the station, games, raffles and a review of the progress made on the new community center. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. The community event will be held at LAPD Pacific Station, 12312 Culver Boulevard. The LAPD’s Pacific Division serves the Venice area as well as Mar Vista, Playa del Rey, Del Rey, Palms and Westchester.      ...

By Paul Chavez, Venice Dispatch The halcyon days of summer inched closer to ending Monday with the season finale of the hilarious Western comedy Quick Draw, an Hulu original series co-created, co-written and directed by Venice resident Nancy Hower. The eight-episode season launched Aug. 15 and stars co-creator and co-writer John Lehr as new Sheriff John Henry Hoyle, a proud graduate of Harvard University who in 1875 employs the emerging science of forensics to the small, unruly town of Great Bend, Kansas. The show’s title refers to Hoyle’s speed and accuracy with his revolver, but also could describe the pace of the ribald jokes delivered in first-rate improv style.
