Sidewalk Cafe Hosts Fundraiser on Friday for Venice Resident Nicole Amaral...

A fundraiser will be held Friday at The Sidewalk Cafe on behalf of Venice resident Nicole Amaral who has been diagnosed with a rare tumor. An online fundraiser also has been started at GoFundMe by  Venice resident Masao Miyashiro to help Amaral who learned after a series of medical tests that she has a rare tumor behind her eye that has been growing into her cheek. The Sidewalk Cafe fundraiser will run Friday  (March 13) from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.  with raffles for bikes, skateboards and a two-night stay in the Dogtown Suite at Hotel Erwin. LAPD Pacific Division to host open house and pancake breakfast Sept. 20...

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division will host an open house and pancake breakfast on September 20 at the station. Proceeds from the $5 per person pancake breakfast will benefit the non-profit Pacific Area Boosters Association that supports the division’s youth programs and the police station. The free open house will include guided tours of the station, games, raffles and a review of the progress made on the new community center. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. The community event will be held at LAPD Pacific Station, 12312 Culver Boulevard. The LAPD’s Pacific Division serves the Venice area as well as Mar Vista, Playa del Rey, Del Rey, Palms and Westchester.      ...

Mercedes Grille Donates Drink Proceeds and Holds Silent Auction Tonight for Slain Co-Worker...

Mercedes Grille is hosting a drink special this afternoon followed by a silent auction featuring items ranging from Lakers tickets to gift certificates from local restaurants to raise funds for the family of slain 24-year-old co-worker Guillermo Carmona-Perez. Proceeds from beer and $5 glasses of wine after 4 p.m. will be donated to his family, said restaurant manager Mark Niklas. Carmona-Perez, who worked as a cook at Mercedes Grille and also at nearby Baja Cantina, was fatally stabbed Nov. 18 about 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Pacific Avenue. The Venice resident was rushed to a nearby hospital, but later died from his injuries. He was the father to a 15-month-old son and left behind...

Venice Duck Brewery Holding New Beer Release Party on Sunday...

Venice Duck Brewery will throw a release party Sunday for its new Dogtown Duck IPA beer. The event will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at James’ Beach restaurant in Venice. Venice Duck Brewery is owned by  local bartenders and entrepreneurs Christian Warren and John Henry Binder.
