Venice Beach Hotel Owner Charged with Murder in Shooting Death of Homeless Man...

By Paul Chavez Venice Dispatch The owner of a Venice Beach hotel was charged with murder Tuesday for the shooting death early Sunday of a 26-year-old homeless man, authorities said. Sris Sinnathamby, 54, was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday afternoon at the LAX Airport Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to a statement by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The case will be prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney John McKinney of the Major Crimes Division. Prosecutors were seeking bail to be set at $5 million. A  26-year-old homeless man was shot and killed early Sunday morning and another man was wounded after a fight on the Venice Beach boardwalk escalated, authorities said. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division responded to a radio call of assault with a deadly weapon with shots fired about 2 a.m. to the 300 block of Ocean Front Walk, said police Officer Norma Eisenman from a statement. Witnesses directed police to a black male in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound and also to a second black male in his 40s with a gunshot wound to his leg, Eisenman said. Police Shoot and Kill Homeless Man in Venice...

A homeless man was shot and killed by police in Venice on Tuesday night after he fought with a bouncer and officers, officials said. The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Pacific and Windward avenues after police received a radio call of a transient harassing passersby, said Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspect fought with a bouncer in front of a business and a physical altercation also occurred with officers responding from the LAPD’s Pacific Division, Im said. By Paul Chavez, Venice Dispatch A divided Venice Neighborhood Council board Tuesday night narrowly voted in favor of a motion supporting the installation of a metal storage container on Venice Beach as a temporary storage unit for shelter-bound homeless people. The 30-foot long storage unit has become a contentious issue in Venice primarily because its installation last week near the Los Angeles Police Department substation on Windward Plaza was not vetted by the community. The board voted 8-5 with three abstentions in favor of a motion supporting the Westside Winter Shelter storage pilot program that also included a request for a follow-up report on its effectiveness. Storage Set Up on Venice Beach for Homeless Winter Shelter Program...

By Paul Chavez, Venice Dispatch A metal container was placed on Venice Beach on Tuesday morning to serve as a temporary storage option for homeless people using the Westside Winter Shelter program. The storage container was set up next to the Los Angeles Police Department substation on Venice Beach, close to the area where the homeless line up at night for bus rides to the shelter.
