Sris Sinnathamby, 54, was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday afternoon at the LAX Airport Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to a statement by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Bonin has put forth a motion addressing the parking squeeze in Venice. Bonin in his November 12 motion asked for an increase in the “in-lieu fees” that developers have the option to pay instead of meeting parking requirements for real estate projects. Gang Member Found Guilty of Double Murder for 2011 Venice Park Shooting...

By Paul Chavez Venice Dispatch A 22-year-old gang member accused of killing two teenagers in a June 2011 shooting at Penmar Park in Venice was found guilty Wednesday of all charges. A jury returned guilty verdicts against Michael Anthony Mariscal, of Culver City, on two counts of first-degree premeditated murder along with the special circumstances of committing multiple murders and killing to benefit a street gang. Mariscal opened fire June 22, 2011, about 4 p.m. on a group of teens sitting in baseball diamond bleachers at Penmar Park and killed Venice High School sophomore Alan Mateo and Venice Skills Center sophomore Salvador Diaz Jr., both 18. Christian Hernandez, 21, testified at Los Angeles Airport Courthouse against Michael Anthony Mariscal, 22, who has been charged with two counts of murder with the special circumstances of multiple murder and to benefit a gang. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division will host an open house and pancake breakfast on September 20 at the station. Proceeds from the $5 per person pancake breakfast will benefit the non-profit Pacific Area Boosters Association that supports the division’s youth programs and the police station. The free open house will include guided tours of the station, games, raffles and a review of the progress made on the new community center. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon. The community event will be held at LAPD Pacific Station, 12312 Culver Boulevard. By Paul Chavez Venice Dispatch Bret Haller, the co-founder and longtime curator of the popular online community forum Yo! Venice, has died. He was 45. Haller died April 9 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a nearly year-long battle against pancreatic cancer, said his brother Eric in a recent interview. A memorial paddle out has been planned for Tuesday to honor Haller with participants asked to gather at 6 p.m. on Windward Plaza by the skate park. Haller’s death was announced by his family on Yo! Venice and many took to the site to express their condolences and gratitude for the website. Haller went by the user name ‘Bret’ on the website and maintained a degree of anonymity among the community despite the site’s popularity. Yo! A memorial paddle out will be held next Tuesday (April 29) in honor of Yo! Venice founder Bret Haller who died earlier this month of cancer . The surfing tribute will begin with a gathering at 6 p.m. at the Bank of Venice bar at 80 Windward Ave., said Bret’s brother Eric Haller on Tuesday. Bret died April 9 in Los Angeles at age 45 after a nearly year-long battle against pancreatic cancer.
